In Babylonian mythology, Tiamat is the chaotic mother goddess who gives birth to the gods. In revenge for the slaying of her husband Apsu, she brings forth a multitude of monsters to make war upon the gods, including dragons
, serpents, scorpion men
, etc. She is eventually slain by the storm god Marduk, and her body is used to form the Earth.
Although in ancient myth she is represented with a human form, over the centuries she has become more closely associated wtih a dragon herself.
