Tiamat

In Babylonian mythology, Tiamat is the chaotic mother goddess who gives birth to the gods. In revenge for the slaying of her husband Apsu, she brings forth a multitude of monsters to make war upon the gods, including dragons, serpents, scorpion men, etc. She is eventually slain by the storm god Marduk, and her body is used to form the Earth.

Although in ancient myth she is represented with a human form, over the centuries she has become more closely associated wtih a dragon herself.
