Azazel was a "rugged spirit" to which the ancient Israelites scarified a goat to during Yom Kippur. The goat was meant to take away all of the sins and transgressions from the community, and is the origin of the term "Scapegoat."According to the Book of Enoch, Azazel was the leader of the rebellious angels who took a liking to human women and begot the Nephilim.
