The Loch Ness Monster

The Loch Ness Monster is a famous cryptid which supposedly lives beneath the waves in Loch Ness, in Scotland. Sightings of the creature go back hundreds of years, but it wasn't until the infamous "Surgeon's photo" in 1933 (later proved to be fake) that the creature became known world wide. There are many theories of what the beast could be, the most popular being a relic plesiosaur population from millions of years ago.

I imagine a highly specialized Plesiosaur adapted to living in Loch Ness, mutated through centuries of inbreeding. The large, sensitive eye helps it see through the dark, peat filled water and keeps the creature away from the surface and blinding sunlight. The tentacle like structures on it's chin help it root through the mud along the bottom for hidden prey. The extended growths along it's "ears" are a new type of sensory organ which allows the monster to detect changing water currents and thus approaching fish.

And why a cyclops? Because it looks cool.

Icegedunk

The Icegedunk is a cryptid from North America. The creature resembles a seal, but has a long tapering body that ends in a fleshy wheel like structure which is used for locomotion. The existence of such creatures have not been substantiated.

Momo - The Missouri Monster

The Missouri Monster (or Momo) is a bipedal cryptid similar to Bigfoot or the Yeti. The creature is described as between 5-7 feet tall, with a large pumpkin-shaped head, no visible neck, and large glowing eyes, covered by long hair. It extrudes a very foul odor.

The New Delhi Monkey Man

The New Delhi Monkey Man is described as a four foot tall humanoid monkey, that attacked people in the middle of the night, with glowing eyes and sharp claws. While the early incidents showed a fur covered creature similar to the Yeti or Bigfoot, later reports tell of the Monkey Man wearing a uniform and helmet. Theories of what the Monkey Man could be range all over the map, such as a cryptid, an avatar of the Hindu god Hanuman, an alien, or even an escaped government experiment.

Is the Monkey Man real? In all likelihood no. As time goes on the creature evolves from what could be a real animal to an urban legend-type character (such as Spring Heeled Jack.) The evolution of reports of the New Delhi Monkey Man read as a classic case study in mass hysteria.

The Thetis Lake Monster

A strange humanoid "Gill-man" reported in Theits Lake, British Columbia, in 1972. The creature was described as five feet tall, scaly, with a spiked webbed crest on it's head, and a mouth full of razor sharp teeth. The creature attacked two boys, slashing one across the hand. Similar creatures have been reported in several other lakes in the area.

Amomongo

The Amomongo is a wild, gorilla-like primate from Philippine mythology. The creatrue supposedly attacks livestock to feast upon their entrails. Sightings of the creature in recent years have placed the Amomongo firmly into the cryptid category.

Triasuarus

A Ceratopian dinosaur with three heads. The Triasaurus lives in deep jungles Africa, where local tribes revere it as a God. Legends of the creature go back at least 1000 years. In the 1850s several expeditions were lead to hunt the monster down, as it was blamed for extensive livestock losses in the area. Witnesses describe bullets bouncing off the creature's thick hide. Modern reports have become increasingly sporadic, leading some to speculate it has gone extinct.

Ahool

The Ahool is a giant bat cryptid reported in Indonesia. It has a large, monkey-like head, claws, and a ten foot wingspan. The creature's name comes from it's distinctive hooting call. There is speculation that the creature may be an undiscovered species of bat, a giant owl, or a petrosaur.

Ya-Te-Veo

The Ya-Te-Veo is a carnivorous tree said to inhabit Central and South America. It has been described as having a short, think trunk topped with multiple tendril-like branches that catch and secure prey. There are unconfirmed reports from the 19th century of Indian tribes which sacrificed victims to the trees.

Mongolian Death Worm

The Mongolian Death Worm is a large (2-5 ft) creature which has been reported in the Gobi Desert. The creature is supposed to be colored from red to tan, and resemble the intestine of a cow. Strange abilities have been attributed to the worm, such as the ability to spew sulfuric acid or generate electrical discharges.

Mantisoid Alien

Mantisoids are among the many different types of aliens reported by abductees around the world. They are described as tall, with six legs, and a peaceful demeanor. Although they speak to each other in clicks, they are able to communicate with other beings via telepathic abilities. Mantisoids have been seen during abductions working alongside other alien types such as the Grays or Reptilians, usually performing various types of medical experiments.

Archadon

The Archadon is a giant, prehistoric, six-legged amphibian. Long thought to be just an urban legend, an expedition by a devoted group of cryptid hunters have finally turned up a relic population of the beast in a secluded Florida swamp. As the creature shows many features found no where else in the fossil record (six legs for example,) many scientists believe it shows evidence for extraterrestrial tampering in Earth's evolution.

Yowie

The Yowie is the Australian name for a creature similar to the Asian Yeti or Bigfoot of North America. The name itself comes from an Aboriginal mythological character.

The Yowie is described as large, with reddish-brown hair, bipedal but walking in a stooped over, gorilla like stance. Sightings mostly occur in heavily forested regions of Australia's sparse outback.

Is the Yowie real? There is definitely enough unpopulated land that could support a population. However to date the evidence collected for the creature (eyewitness sightings, footprint casts of dubious origin, unidentified hair samples) fails to convince the larger scientific community.

Rods

Rods are small creatures that were first noticed as artifacts taken with video cameras, and so were not "discovered" until home video camcorders became widespread. They resemble very quickly moving insects with a long, rod-like shape and multiple wings. They move so fast that their profiles become blurred, and thus a clear picture of a Rod has not yet been taken. The conventional explanation for them is that they are merely an optical illusion produced by ordinary insects.

The Jersey Devil

Legends of the Jersey Devil go back to colonial times and before. The creature is generally described as bipedal, with large bat wings, hind legs that bend like a cranes, hooves, and a horse or dog-head. The size of the devil varies from three to seven feet tall, and the color varies as well (with white the most common.)

Eye witnesses also describe a loud scream, "like a train wreak."

The Loveland Frog men

The Loveland Frog man is a four foot tall humanoid with the face of a lizard or frog, first spotted in Loveland Ohio in 1955. (For those of you keeping track, this is also the same year of the Kentucky Goblin incident.) They are described as scaly, with wide mouths, wrinkles on their heads. Later descriptions mention "wet hair" on their bodies which showed texture (a garment?) as well as a "possible tail." There have also been descriptions of a wand-type object which expels sparks and leaves the smell of almonds behind.

The Frog men have been seen in 1955, 1972, and again in 2000, all around the same general area of Loveland, Ohio. There was also a report of similar creature in the Dominican Republic in 1988 which may be related.

The Flatwoods Monster

The Flatwoods monster is a strange anomalous creature that appeared near Flatwoods, Virgina on Sept. 12th, 1952. Eyewitnesses describe a 10 foot creature with a green body, large glowing eyes, small branch-like "arms," and a glowing head covered by (or in front of) a heart shaped cowl of some kind. Along with the creature came multiple UFO sightings. Several eyewitnesses also described some type of mist or gas emitted by the creature, and were sick for several days afterward.

What was it? The conventional explanation is that the monster was an Owl - although how someone could have mistaken a common barn owl with a ten foot tall glowing alien monster is beyond me.

Reptilian

Rumors of Reptilian humanoids began emerging upon the UFO abduction scene in the early 1990s. They are described as between seven to nine feet tall, with a huge muscular frame, clawed hands and feet, glowing red eyes, and sometimes even wings. They are generally seen as working behind the scenes, in command of a smaller species of Alien Grays (although details are fuzzy on this point.) Researchers such as David Ike claim that the highest levels of the world's governments have been infiltrated by shape-shifting reptilians, and that many of our world leaders are in fact reptiles in disguise.

Actually, that would explain a lot of things really...

Yeti

Stories of the Yeti (from Meh-Teh, "Man-Bear") go back centuries into the folklore of the Sherpa people of Tibet and Neapl. It is described as between 7-13 feet tall, covered with shaggy hair (usually of a dark color,) with a bipedal gait, and an odd, pointed head. The "Abominable Snowman" became famous in the west after western explorers discovered it's tracks while attempting to scale the Himalayas. Although many expiditions have been undertaken to caputre the creature, conclusive evidence of it's existence has remained elusive.

Sasquatch

Sasquatch is a large primate that dwells in the American Pacific northwest, where large amounts of undisturbed forest still remain. Reports of such a beast go back to Indian folktales and persist all through America's history. Sasquatch (otherwise known as Bigfoot,) is typically described as extremely tall (7 - 13 feet,) covered in shaggy hair of a brown-reddish color, walking upright, and combining many features between humans and apes. The nickname "Bigfoot" comes from the creature's unusually large foot size (up to 20 inches,) as footprints are usually the only remaining evidence after a sighting. Although there have been sporadic reports of people who have been attacked or even abducted by the creature, generally they tend to shy away from humans, and will leave the area quickly upon being sighted.

This would still not stop me from running if I were to encounter one.
