Puguwoo

The Puguwoos are small animals bred to be pets, although several races also use them as a food source. They were originally marketed by entrepreneurs within the Schufphelite empire, however their popularity has spread them across the galaxy. They are known for their friendly dispositions, their extreme loyalty, and their tender meat.

Tarags

Tarags are omnivorous porcine-like creatures from a harsh jungle planet. They have a very effective sense of smell, which allows them to track prey for up to 10 km (5 miles.) The creatures are bred as pets or for their meat by many different species.

Qhosrt

Qhosrt are a type of animal which evolved in a steamy, jungle environment. The eyes are situated on fat, semi-flexible stalks which look out in opposite directions for oncoming prey, while the mouth is positioned above to feed on hanging branches and leaves. Qhosrt are capable of eating nearly any kind or organic matter, and have been domesticated as pets and pack animals by many different space faring species.

Squeenilix

Squeenilix are happy, energetic, dog-like creatures, which are often kept as pets by many races in the Galaxy, although they are also sold as food on many planets as well. There are many different breeds of Squeenilix and the creatures come in all manner of sizes, shapes, and colors. It is believed they are a devolved form of a once sentient race who held a vast galactic empire in eons past.

Octoparachix

The Octoparachix is the second attempt of the Cristix corporation to break into the genetically engineered designer pet market after the failed Dwurm debacle. DNA was taken from a chicken, parrot, and octopus. The resulting creature, dubbed "Octoparachix" was extremely dangerous, known to attack small children and eat other pets (cats, dogs, etc.) Some financial success was made selling the creature to security firms to be used as attack dogs.

Stink Frog

The Bufo Smellahollic, better known as the "Stink Frog," large species of highly specialized frogs. The prevailing theory is that they are evolved from a mixture of rare amazon poison frogs which were bought as pets but escaped into the sewer systems of large cities. The forelimbs of the creature have tripled in size and are used for a bowlegged form of locomotion while the hind legs have all but disappeared. The ears are no longer merely instruments for hearing, but have evolved into strange, cone-like protuberances that secrete an odorous funk, used to mark territory and as a defensive measure.

Gatorhead

After the near disaster from the Phollywog and semi-recovery with Designer Rex, the Toywerks toy company had finally began to recover its public image (and quarterly profits.) The decision was made to venture into one more attempt at the designer pet market. This time all manner of safety precautions were taken. Although the Gatorhead uses alligator DNA, it is altered enough that the animal is a natural herbivore. Gaotrheads are born sterile and have a predetermined 4 year life span. They have been manipulated to never grow beyond the size of a small dog and are thus completely safe for children.

It was also a huge failure. Customers found the pet slow moving, lethargic, and "boring." Despite all manner of built in fail safes, sporadic reports of Gatorheads breeding and growing to full alligator adult size are common.

Designer Rex

After the Phollywog debacle, the Toywerks toy company found itself on the edge of destitution. The decision was made to put nearly all of the remaining capital into another designer pet initiative. Thus was born the Designer Rex, a miniature dinosaur created from cloned T-Rex DNA. The creature was genetically manipulated to severely stunt the growth cycle, trapping the T-Rex in a juvenile, midget-like state. However, this did nothing to prevent the creature's natural hunting tendencies. The Designer Rex was initially a huge success, however a large public outcry following the severe mauling deaths of several children lead to their eventual outlawing. Designer Rex is still sold overseas, and to various companies to be used as guard dogs.

Phollywog

Phollywogs are bizarre mutations, originally created as designer pets for the ToyWerks toy company. They are grown from eggs, engineered to overly respond to stimuli, and have short life spans. However several inherent flaws in their genetic code allowed some of the Phollywogs to break their genetic programing and escape. Due to their short maturation cycle it was only a matter of time before thousands upon thousands of Phollywogs nearly overran the civilized world.

Many years later, the Phollywog threat has finally been contained. However there are still sporadic reports from isolated areas, and the Department of Phollywod eradication is ever vigilant.
